There is sailing, wind surfing and canoeing available at Carsington Water only 5 miles away.

Cycles can be hired from the centre on the Tissington Trail, just five minutes walk from Compton House. Cycles are also available at Carsington Water.
Ashbourne offers an ideal base for touring the Peak District National Park (the first national park in England formed in 1951) by car, or walking in our famous Dovedale, Milldale, or many other beauty spots of the area. The alternative Pennine Way starts in Ashbourne.
Other places of interest within easy distance are Haddon Hall, Kedleston Hall, Chatsworth House, Caulk Abbey, Sudbury Hall including the Museum of Childhood, and Alton Towers which is only 8 miles away.

Buxton is only 30 minutes away with its famous Opera house. Castleton is 40 minutes away with its spectacular Winnats Pass and four Caverns from where the famous Blue John was mined.

The National Tramway Museum is half an hour away at Crich. Crich is the location for the TV medical drama Peak Practice. Sudbury Hall was the location for Pride and Prejudice. Haddon Hall has also been the location for several TV dramas.
